Did Your Phone Get Wet? Steps to Save It Before It’s Too Late

Getting a phone wet is one of the most common and concerning situations. However, in 2025, devices have improved their water resistance, and there are more effective methods to save a wet phone before irreversible damage occurs. Here’s what to do if your phone gets wet.

1. Turn Off the Device Immediately

If your phone gets wet, the first thing you should do is turn it off to prevent short circuits. Do not try to turn it on until it is completely dry.

2. Dry It with an Absorbent Cloth

Use a dry cloth or paper towel to remove excess water from the surface. Do not shake or blow on the phone, as this could push water further inside.

3. Remove the SIM Card and Memory Card

If possible, take out the SIM card and microSD to prevent damage. It is also recommended to open port covers and connectors to allow air circulation.

4. Avoid Rice: Use Silica Gel or Dry Air Instead

The rice method is a myth: instead, place the phone in a bag with silica gel packets (like those found in shoeboxes) or leave it in a dry, well-ventilated area.

5. Wait at Least 24 Hours Before Turning It On

Make sure the phone is completely dry before trying to turn it on. If it still doesn’t work after 24-48 hours, take it to a specialized repair service.

Following these steps can increase the chances of saving a wet phone without permanent damage. Have you ever rescued a device from a water accident?
